U.S. Forgetting Proven Nuclear Powers Continues Iran-Bashing Polices

Russian officials in their meetings with the Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Agency Gholam Reza Aqazadeh in Russia once again stated categorically that Moscow will remain committed to its agreement with Iran for the construction of Bushehr nuclear plant. The Russian reassurance comes at a time when the U.S. desperate attempts to stop Iran-Russian nuclear cooperation have become a virtual failure.

The international Atomic Energy Agency for a number of times has confirmed that Iran's nuclear activities are exclusively used for peaceful purposes. Iran's partners too have acknowledge the peaceful use of nuclear technology in Iran. But the United States is following its own objectives in baselessly accusing Iran of trying to acquire nuclear weapons. Only a couple of days ago India undertook a nuclear test and Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced that India has moved from a threshold nuclear power to a nuclear power.

Pakistan too is a threshold nuclear power and given Indo-Pakistan hostilities and competition, Islamabad may any time conduct nuclear tests and become a proven nuclear power. Israel has more than 200 nuclear warheads and is a virtual nuclear power. China is a proven nuclear power. Given the proven nuclear powers, Iran is really encircled by nuclear powers on its west, north, and east.

Despite all this Iran is a signatory to the NPT and CTBT and is not at all interested in acquiring nuclear weapons. How is it then that Washington has forgotten about the nuclear powers and threshold nuclear powers and is following an Iran-bashing policy? The reason is clear: Washington is under the influence of the Zionist circles. We sincerely call on Washington to listen to the voice of conscience and stop its Iran-bashing policies.

Instead Washington must at this stage concentrate on preventing prettification of nuclear weapons in South Asia and Middle East (Israel). If Israel is not stopped from acquiring nuclear weapons, we are sure Washington will be the first country to be blackmailed by Tel Aviv. A glance at the U.S.-sponsored peace process and Israeli "Nos" to Washington in complying with its commitments should be a good eye opener for the United States of America. We must not forget that Iraq was armed to the teeth (conventional and nuclear) by the U.S. and its allies.

But Baghdad used the same weapons against the allies and interests of the same countries that armed it. The day will not be too far when Israel will use its nuclear arsenal to blackmail the United States and other countries that helped it arm itself. Instead of projecting Iran as a nuclear threat, Washington must now stop it Iran-bashing policies and take serious measures to halt nuclearization of the Middle East and South Asia.
