TEHRAN (IRNA) -- President Mohammad Khatami, in his message to the first seminar on development of the northeastern city of Khaf held on Wednesday in the city itself, stressed on the importance of national development.

President Khatami's message was read out by Governor General of Khorassan province Hassan Rasouli.

Cultural and religious potentials of the Khaf region in Khorassan province along with the provided facilities have paved the way for development of the region, the message added.

Underlining the need for precise and careful planning for development of the Khaf region, President Khatami said the Iranian officials shoulder great historical and national responsibility regarding development of the eastern part of the country.
