Billups powers Pistons to one more win before All-Star break
Richard Hamilton, celebrating his 28th birthday, added 18 points as the Pistons improved to 42-9 in their final game before the NBA All-Star break.
Detroit won for the third time in four games and heads into the break with the NBA's top record as the Pistons try to follow up back-to-back Eastern Conference playoff championships.
The Pistons led 45-38 at the half and the Nets closed to within three points early in the third quarter before a 14-0 run put the game away for Detroit.
New Jersey coach Lawrence Frank realized that the Pistons third quarter run basically finished off the Nets. "We put ourselves in a bad way in the third quarter," Frank told reporters. "On the road against a good team, that's one heck of a hole to dig yourself out of."
Detroit outscored New Jersey 26-12 in the third quarter to lead by 21 points heading to the final quarter, when coach Flip Saunders went to his bench and used his reserves.
Detroit has used the same starting lineup in all 51 games this season, the third longest such streak from the start of a season since 1980.
Rasheed Wallace added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, while Ben Wallace contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Tayshaun Prince had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Pistons, who shot just 39 percent from the field while improving to 23-2 at home.
Richard Jefferson led the Nets with 18 points and nine rebounds and Vince Carter chipped in with 13 points for New Jersey.
The Nets slipped to 27-23 but still lead the Atlantic Division by three games over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Jason Kidd scored just 10 points, all of them in the first half, and had a season-low three assists.
In Miami, Dwyane Wade scored 38 points as the Heat beat the Orlando Magic 107-93.
Shaquille O'Neal added 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Heat, while Dwight Howard scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds for the Magic.
In Milwaukee, Michael Redd scored 19 points to help the Bucks beat the Seattle SuperSonics 106-91.
Joe Smith added 18 points for the Bucks, while Rashard Lewis scored 25 points and Ray Allen added 19 points for the SuperSonics.
In Chicago, Sacramento Kings beat the Bulls 105-101 in overtime with Mike Bibby contributing 31 points.
Ron Artest added 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Kings. Ben Gordon scored 30 points and Kirk Hinrich added 21 for the Bulls.
