Negotiation only solution to Iran’s nuclear dispute: cleric

TEHRAN – In an interview with the Arabic language daily Asharq al-Awsat, Chairman of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri has said that negotiation is the only solution to Iran’s nuclear dispute, the Mehr News Agency reported on Sunday.

“The only possible solution to end the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program with the United States and Europe is to hold talks to reach some compromise based on the international law,” he stated.

Although Iran’s nuclear dossier was sent to the UN Security Council under the pressure of the U.S. and Europe, it is obvious that there was no legal basis for such a move, he stated.

It is also obvious that those who have created disputes about the nature of Iran’s nuclear program have committed inhuman war crimes in the past, the cleric noted.

He emphasized that Iran will never succumb to the pressures, adding that the Islamic Republic has the right to conduct nuclear research under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The main problem is the discriminatory and double-standard policies adopted toward the Islamic world, Taskhiri said.
