EC chairman to visit Syria, Kuwait

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Expediency Council (EC) Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, in response to the official invitation of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, will leave for Damascus on Wednesday at the head of a delegation.

A report released by the EC Public Relations Department said that during his stay in Syria, Rafsanjani will visit the holy shrines of Hazrat-e Zeinab (AS) and Hazrat-e Roqayeh (AS).

Besides, he will confer with the Syrian president, First Vice President Farouk al-Shara, Prime Minister Muhammed Naji al-Otari, a number of political and religious figures as well as Lebanese and Palestinian personalities on bilateral, regional and international issues, in particular those of the world of Islam, Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon.

Meanwhile, he is scheduled to inspect several development and industrial projects currently underway in Syria as well as the historical and religious monuments.

During his visit to Kuwait, Rafsanjani will meet the country's Emir, prime minister, parliament speaker, tradesmen, Kuwaiti and Iranian scholars as well as media and press chiefs.
