Mottaki tells EU3 envoys that proposal should guarantee Iran’s rights

TEHRAN- Iran will welcome any constructive proposal by the EU which will help resolve the country’s nuclear dispute and guarantee Iran’s legal rights, Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said on Monday.

"Any demand for a suspension or pause (of uranium enrichment) is an illogical and unacceptable demand and undoubtedly will be rejected," Mottaki told the ambassadors of Britain and France and Germany’s charge d’affaires in Tehran.

"If the European proposal fails to recognize Iran's inalienable right to access nuclear technology, it will end up facing a situation similar to the plan proposed by Europe in August 2005," IRNA quoted him as saying.

“The Islamic Republic has made many attempts on its own part to build confidence, but it did not receive a positive response from Europe,” he added.

The European Union should play its part in building confidence, he noted.

Iran’s achievements in uranium enrichment and nuclear technology and know-how are an undeniable and irreversible truth, Mottaki said.

“If the EU takes steps based on the realities, the outlook will be positive,” he added.

For their part, the representatives of the EU3 said that they will convey Iran's views on the issue to their respective officials immediately and expressed the interest of the EU3 to hold talks with Iran.

They admitted that this time the three European countries have attempted to draw up their proposal more accurately and hoped that relevant talks would resume.
