TEHRAN – Block 6 of the Caspian Sea is on the priority list of oil exploration business in Iranian water, executive director of Khazar Exploration and Production Company Mohammad Hossein Dana told the Persian service of ISNA on Tuesday.

“The timely delivery of Alborz Platform and the supporting vessels may accelerate the project,” he said, commenting that completion of the plan would be a stepping stone to solve the problems of Caspian Sea’s legal regime.

SADRA Company was expected to deliver the platform to North Drilling Company last February, but the matter is still pending, Dana voiced his concern. A member of SADRA’s board of directors, however, stated that Alborz requires 42 changes to be seaworthy in Caspian Sea and the two tugboats needed for the operation are still under construction. “Nevertheless, the delivery is anticipated to take place in summer,” the board member responded.

The preliminary studies on eight blocks in the southern part of the sea set the total oil reserve at over 32 billion barrels.
