TEHRAN – An informed source announced on Wednesday that concerns over the presence of death squads supported by the Zionist regime in Brussels were the reason behind the postponement of Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani’s trip to Belgium where he was supposed to meet the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

“Following news from Brussels about the presence of death squads from terrorist groups supported by the Zionist regime and some Western countries, security officials called for the postponement of Larijani’s trip to Brussels over concerns about his security,” the source told the Mehr News Agency.

After the European side guaranteed the security of the Iranian delegation an agreement was made to hold the meeting next Tuesday, he added.

“Solana said that the cancellation of Larijani’s trip to Brussels has hurt the position of the EU and called on Larijani to have a short stop in Brussels in his European tour which will start from Thursday,” added the source.

“Mr. Larijani accepted the offer in order to demonstrate Iran’s goodwill and will therefore take part in Solana’s dinner banquet which is to be held on Thursday.”
