MASHHAD, Khorasan Razavi Prov. (IRNA) -- Member of the Expediency Council, Hojjatoleslam Majid Ansari here Saturday said that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) should learn a lesson from the recent catastrophe in Lebanon.

He told IRNA that in case of Iran's nuclear issue, the UN Security Council should consider its bitter experience in Lebanon due to its negligence and playing politics and thus make a rational decision.

Ansari said that the unilateral approach of the UNSC was the main factor in continuation of the Zionist regime's crimes in Lebanon, which made the other countries raise question on its reputation.

"In a similar way, Europe was gradually influenced by the U.S. propaganda campaign against Iran and is currently offering the views of American politicians," he added.

The EC member said that Iran has always been transparent and clear in using nuclear technology.

"Given the need for access to nuclear technology by any country as a requirement to development, no organization can ever prevent it by offering irrational reasons," he said.

Concerning the UN Security Council's deadline for suspension of Iran's nuclear activities (August 31), given that Iran has officially declared that it will not suspend enrichment, he hoped that the UNSC will make a decision more rationally and without playing politics.

Underlining that Iran will not welcome sanctions, he said that if dismissal of sanction means contending national interests, Iran will prefer to bear the burden of sanction to protect its independence.

"Given its experience over the past 28 years, Iran is capable of bearing any type of sanction.

"I believe that in the domain of science and technology, great progress has often been observed due to the restrictions associated with sanctions, which eventually resulted in Iran's independence," said the official.
