SINGAPORE (Reuters) -- Five-times Olympic swimming champion Ian Thorpe is healthy and ready to resume training with his old coach in Sydney later this month, The Australian newspaper's website reported on Tuesday.
The website sourced Australian swimming head coach Alan Thompson.
Thorpe said in August that he considered quitting the sport on a daily basis and that he was a few kilograms overweight, however the website reported Thompson as saying the swimmer was now in good spirits and was about to resume training with coach Tracey Menzies in a few weeks.
Thorpe may contest a lead-up meet at Canberra's Australian Institute of Sport on November 3 in preparation for December's world championship trials in Brisbane.
Illness and a broken hand have hampered Thorpe this year and Thompson does not expect him to be at his best in the trials.
