Lawmakers depart for Indonesia

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- An Iranian parliamentary delegation headed by the Secretary General of Iran's Inter-Parliamentary Group, Seyed Mohsen Yahyavi, departed for the Indonesian city of Bali on Saturday to attend the 116th World Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Meeting to be held through April 29-May 4.

Majlis Human Rights Committee alternate member, Kazem Jalali and the alternate member of the committee in charge of the affairs of women representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Nafisseh Fayyazbakhsh will also attend the upcoming event.

The agenda of the inter-parliamentary meeting will include global political, social and economic developments.

Meanwhile, MPs from 130 world countries will attend the six-day event to discuss three distinct subjects within the framework of three research and specialized committees.

The three subjects include guarantee for respect and peaceful coexistence among all communities as well as religious beliefs, job creation and security in the era of globalization as well as promotion and advancement of pluralism.

Besides, at the meeting in Bali, women's issues including their employment and working conditions will also be discussed at a day-long session to be attended by female lawmakers.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is a non-governmental organization with 146 member states. It is situated in the Swiss city of Geneva and is more than 110 years old. Iran is one of the union's active members.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is held biannually in which speakers and members of world parliaments exchange views and approve resolutions. Major international bodies are also represented at the union as observers and attend its meetings.

Secretary General of the newly-organized Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Seyed Hadi Nejad-Hosseinian will also participate in the 116th World Inter-Parliamentary Assembly meeting in response to the invitation of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union.
