TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Hegemonic powers will die without seeing its desire of isolating Iran materialized, Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said Tuesday.
""Efforts made by hegemonic powers to exert (international) pressures on Iran will be fruitless,"" Rafsanjani said in his address to the fifth International Conference on Mosques.Noting that Iran has become a ""model state"" for the world of Islam, Rafsanjani said, ""The government and people of Iran will influence future developments of the world"" as the country's Islamic Revolution has successfully attracted Muslim nations.
He stressed, ""Breaking the spell of colonialism worldwide and challenging the United States were two major tasks done by the Iranian nation with the help of clergymen.""
The cleric said that Muslims make up one fourth of the world's population and possess 60 percent of the world's strategic facilities.
""With their 60 independent votes at the United Nations Organization, Muslim states, unlike other world countries, can resolve many of the problems facing the Islamic world through unity,"" Rafsanjani stressed.
Referring to the significant role of mosques in strengthening Islamic unity, the cleric said more efforts should be made at international level to further activate mosques so that they can increasingly help in fostering unity among Muslim nations
