Interior Ministry seeks to eliminate Majlis runoffs: Purmohammadi

TEHRAN - Interior Minister Mostafa Purmohammadi said here on Wednesday that the election law needs to be revised as he announced that the Interior Ministry is studying the idea of eliminating parliamentary runoff elections.

“We believe the election law needs to be changed,” Purmohammadi told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel on Sunday proposed an amendment to the election law that would eliminate runoff parliamentary elections.
Keeping the job
On Wednesday, Purmohammadi stressed that he is continuing to serve as minister and plans to keep the job. But he insisted that the future developments are out of his control.
Recently, cabinet spokesman declared in a report on his website that interior minister will be changed.
Sources even said the replacement will take place after the runoff parliamentary election, which was held on April 25. There was also a report that the president plans to appoint State Audit Court director Mohammad-Reza Rahimi as acting interior minister
