TEHRAN -- “We are eager to watch films by the new generation of Iran,” Nashville Film Festival (NAFF) Artistic Director Brian Gordon said recently.
The Iranian cinema is associated with acclaimed director Abbas Kiarostami in the United States and his style is known as the “Iranian style” of filmmaking in the Western countries, he noted. The new generations of Iranian filmmakers portray things from a different point of view in their films, he added.
Amir-Shahab Razavian’s film “Mina of the Silent City” was screened at NAFF which was held from April 17 to 24.
Gordon marveled over the professional acting of Ezzatollah Entezami despite his age.
In February 2007 he was awarded the Jury’s Special Crystal Simorgh award at the 25th Fajr International Film Festival, Iran’s most prestigious cinematic event, for his role in “Mina of the Silent City”.
Razavian spoke on filmmaking conditions in Iran and his experiences in making “Mina of the Silent City” during a meeting after the screening of the film at the festival.
The film tells the story of Iranian Bahman Parsa who has returned to his homeland from Germany after 35 years. He is accompanied by one of his father’s old friends to his birthplace, Bam, where he looks for his lost beloved.
