10% interest rates must be instructed: economic ministry

TEHRAN -- Caretaker of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance Hossein Samsami said here on Friday that the central bank must instruct all banks in Iran to give 10 percent interest rates.
“The President has announced that all banks should give 10 percent interest rates and this must be observed and implemented by the central bank,” he stated.Elsewhere he noted that there is no relation between interest rates and inflation in the society and that this had been reviewed via various discussions.
“For example the U.S. with an approximate inflation rate of 2 percent has hugely reduced its interest rates,” he said.
Regarding salaries, the caretaker of the ministry of economic affairs and finance assured all reporters that President Ahmadinejad himself had emphasized on the clarification of this issue in the governments Sunday session.
