An Iranian military commander says the country is seeking to enhance its defense capabilities to repel possible attacks by enemies.
The armed forces are strengthening their defensive preparedness to be able to counter enemies if they dare to harbor the ""foolish"" thought of ""invading the Islamic Iran"", Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Commander Major General Mohammad-Ali Jafari warned. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps is fully informed of the latest developments taking place along the Iranian borders, the commander told the Iranian TV ahead of May 24 that marks the Liberation of Khorramshahr in 1982 during the Iran-Iraq war.
Jafari also stressed that the political and military foresightedness of the founder of the Islamic Revolution was the most important factor in the liberation of the city by the Iranian soldiers.
As part of Operation Beit-ul-Moqaddas, Iranians liberated the port city of Khorramshahr from the Iraqis in 1982. The successful liberation of the city is perceived as a turning point in the Iraqi imposed war and is celebrated in Iran each year.
