NAIROBI (AP) - A small plane carrying two members of the Kenyan government crashed Tuesday, according to an official from Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority. It was not clear whether they survived.
Roads Minister Kipkalya Kones and Assistant Home Affairs Minister Lorna Laboso were on board the six-seater Cessna that went down in southwestern Kenya, according to the official. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the crash. He said some passengers died, but it was not clear how many.
The official said he knew the identities of the passengers because the carrier informed the control tower before takeoff.
Kones is a five-term lawmaker whose appointment to the Cabinet was part of a power-sharing deal between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Laboso, a new lawmaker, is among the small number of women elected to Kenya’s National Assembly.
