TEHRAN – Zanjan university chancellor Yusef Sobuti has criticized the government for pursuing a failed policy on science and technology.

“The method of providing students with special training and education to make scholars of them has been tried in the West for many years and has proved unsuccessful. But today our country is walking the same failed path,” he told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.
In order to achieve scientific progress the government should create a calm atmosphere for researchers without any distraction, Sobuti suggested.
“A researcher needs a peaceful environment to conduct his research. He should not have distractions such as mismanagement in office and social problems.”
He went on to say that Iran needs to improve its academic relations with the world.
The government should also provide job security for university graduates to encourage them to stay in the country, he noted.
“Universities should give their graduates freedom and facilities to ensure a bright future for them if they stay in the country.”
The government should also complement its efforts to train talented students for international competitions with adopting an appropriate approach to encourage them to stay in Iran, he stated.
