The policies of the present government are highly investment-friendly and it would welcome foreign investments in hydro-power projects, which are vital to cope with the growing challenge of energy shortages in the country.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said this while talking to Vice President of China International Water and Electric Cooperation (CIWEC), Wang Shaofeng, who called on him at the Prime Minister House along with a delegation on Sunday.
The CIWEC vice president offered 80 per cent investment of the cost supplies credit against sovereign guarantee in order to complete the 1,100 MW Kohala hydro-power project at River Jhelum, which is at feasibility design stage by Wapda. The remaining 20 per cent would be borne by the Pakistan government.
Wang Shaofeng offered 100 per cent investment by his CIWEC in 500 MW and above hydropower projects on build-operate-transfer basis anywhere in Pakistan.
The prime minister appreciated the offer and said the government would give due consideration to these offers.
The meeting was also attended by Federal Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and secretary finance, besides secretary BOI and senior officials.
