TEHRAN -- Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, has criticized the agency for allowing leaks of confidential information, an informed source in Vienna told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.
Soltanieh made the remarks during a briefing session on the nuclear programs of Iran and Syria held at IAEA headquarters in Vienna on Friday. He censured the IAEA for its inability to keep confidential information secure and reminded agency officials that Iran has repeatedly stated its concerns over such incidents over the past few years.
Soltanieh also said IAEA officials had declared that they would present “evidence” proving Iran’s nuclear activities have violated IAEA regulations, but no documents have been provided so far.
Making allegations with no evidence is not acceptable, he stated.
Soltanieh also emphasized that Iran has cooperated with the nuclear agency, even beyond the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Iran-IAEA modality plan, while it had no legal obligation to do so.
Last week, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei released a report reaffirming the non-diversion of Iran’s nuclear activities towards weapons production
