Iran’s finance minister, CB president attend WB-IMF preparatory meeting

TEHRAN – Iran’s Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Shamseddin Hosseini arrived in Algeria on Saturday to attend the preparatory meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund Spring Meeting which is to be held from April 25 to 26, 2009 in Washington, D.C.
Heading a delegation, Hosseini held talks with the finance ministers of Algeria and five other members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), Afghanistan, Ghana, Morocco, Pakistan and Tunisia, to analyze the impact of the global economic crisis on their economies.Iran’s Central Bank president Mahmoud Bahmani accompanies the minister as the country’s representative in the group of 24 developing countries (G-24), IRIB reported.
The participants also discussed the issue of governance and reform of the financing facilities of the IMF as well as related the strengthening of the representation within the governing bodies of the WB and the facilities put in places in this institution to help countries cope with the global crisis.
G-24 was established in 1971 to coordinate the positions of developing countries on international monetary and development finance issues and to ensure that their interests were adequately represented in negotiations on international monetary matters
