TEHRAN - Over 200 MPs have congratulated President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on his victory in Friday’s presidential election.

The election was a display of unity between the Iranian nation and the government, read part of a statement issued on Sunday that was signed by 220 Majlis deputies.
Incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected president after receiving 24,527,516 votes, which was 62.63 percent of the approximately 39.1 million votes cast in Friday’s election. Main challenger Mir-Hossein Mousavi received 13,216,411 votes, which was 33.75 percent of the turnout.
The people’s representatives will support the president’s efforts to make the fourth decade of the Islamic Revolution “the decade of progress and justice”, they added.
The MPs also said that everyone is expected to respect the law and the citizens’ votes.
The lawmakers also thanked all citizens, factions, and prominent figures of the revolution for their contributions to the election.
