TEHRAN -- MP Ali Motahhari stated on Wednesday that national TV can play an important role to calm the tense atmosphere in the society by holding debates between the presidential candidates and the Interior Ministry officials over the presidential election results.

Holding transparent debates which give candidates equal time to freely express their objection, and the Interior Ministry officials providing convincing responses to them can decrease tension, the MP told the Mehr News Agency.
The candidates should avoid any prejudice before the announcement of the final verdict by the Guardian Council, and call on their supporters to be patient. And if the candidates disagree with the GC’s decision it should refer their case to the Judiciary, he stated.
He went on to say that the protesters to the election outcome should not be designated as gangs or troublemakers.
The lawmaker noted that the officials should seriously avoid creating a security atmosphere in the country and should give convincing answers to people.
MP Esmail Kosari also stated on Wednesday that televised debates can help provide a transparent atmosphere in the society.
However, he told the MNA that since certain candidates have violated the law, holding debates at the current time are not advisable.
Asked about the Supreme Leader’s remarks on Friday, Kosari said the Leader has a good command of issues and considers all aspects.
He went on to say that those who are loyal to the Islamic Revolution know that the Leader’s statements were definitive.
He pointed out that the Supreme Leader has insisted that all complaints about the election should be pursued through legal channels.
The lawmaker added that people seek a severe and decisive response to the law violators
