Paraguay took a giant step towards the last 16 of the World Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory over Slovakia in Bloemfontein on Sunday afternoon.
Enrique Vera finished smartly with the outside of his boot after being picked out by Lucas Barrios' pass on 27 minutes to put the South Americans into a deserved lead, and Cristian Riveros settled any nerves with a fine curling effort from the edge of the box four minutes from time.It was a comfortable afternoon for Paraguay, who now only need a draw against New Zealand in their final group game to secure their spot in the knockout stages.
For Slovakia, elimination looks all but certain with only victory over Italy giving them a chance of progressing.
