TEHRAN – Local bodies such as municipalities and city councils have not been given any share in the management of local affairs, says Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

“Municipalities and city councils have not been given the status they deserve in decision-making for local affairs,” Qalibaf said on Wednesday.
“In the current situation the municipalities and city councils are not involved in the management of the country’s affairs, and it shows that the local government has no status in the country’s political system,” he stated.
Tehran mayor also criticized the moves aimed at undermining the city councils.
The city councils are being undermined and their authority is being restricted, he commented.
