TEHRAN -- The Iranian film “The Other” by Mehdi Rahmani grabbed the Best Children’s Feature Film trophy at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), was held on Australia’s Gold Coast on Thursday.
“The Other” narrates a story about relationships that exist between some adults and an adolescent boy. The people in the film are involved in a problem they are unable to solve among themselves and only the adolescent boy (Reza) is able to overcome it.“I want to screen the film in Iran and I will only be satisfied when I see an Iranian audience watching my movie in my country. I want to see their reactions toward the film,” Masumi previously told MNA.
“Aftershock” by Chinese director Feng Xiaogang took Best Feature Film from the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. The film deals with the aftermath of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake that killed at least 255,000 people.
Iranian director Asghar Farhadi was also among the four writer-directors to receive grants of $25,000 from the Motion Picture Association and APSA for script development of their next projects. He won the prize for his “Separation of Nader and Simin”.
The funding, which is only available to APSA Academy members, was also claimed by Sergey Dvortsevoy (for upcoming project “Ayka”), Peng Tao (for upcoming project “Straw Man”) and Lee Chang-dong (for his upcoming project “Memories of the Blue Hill Club”).
Starring Merila Zarei, Peyman Ma’adi, Sareh Bayat, Sarina Farhadi, Babak Karimi, Ali-Asghar Shahbazi, and Shirin Yazdani, Farhadi’s upcoming film is about a couple named Nader and Simin who are getting a divorce, but the tutorship of their child is causing trouble for them.
Farhadi received the Jury Grand Prize and Best Screenplay Award at the third annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), and has received accolades at other international events.
