Mehrjuii preparing “The Lesson” for Fajr festival
TEHRAN -- Veteran director Dariush Mehrjuii will stage “The Lesson” at the 29th Fajr International Theater Festival in February 2011.Written by Eugene Ionesco, “The Lesson” is an hour-long exchange between a professor and a student, where information is reduced to meaningless and disturbing verbiage.
Amir Jafari and Taraneh Alidusti are among the cast members. The play will be staged at the Samandarian Hall of the Iranshahr Theater Complex for the public after the festival.
Scholar Hassan Emdad dies at 89
TEHRAN -- Iranian scholar and author Hassan Emdad passed away in Shiraz. He was 89.
He has written several books and articles on Sadi’s works and conducted research on the history of the Fars Province.
His funeral procession will take place on Wednesday in front Sadi’s Tomb in Shiraz and he will be buried near Hafez’ Tomb.
TMCA screens doc on two pioneers of Iran’s modern painting
TEHRAN -- The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) will screen a documentary on Iranian modern painters.
Entitled “Iran’s Modern Painters”, the film is directed by Mohammad Saffar. The documentary is about two major pioneers of Iranian modern painting, Mahmud Javadipur and Ahmad Esfandiari.
The museum is currently displaying works by Javadipur and Esfandiari during an exhibition entitled “Pioneers of Iranian Modern Art” which will run until January 20.
IRIB to make animation film on Persian calligraphy
TEHRAN -- Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) department in Qazvin plans to make an animation on calligraphy for children.
Named “Listen to the Reed”, the animation is narrated by a reed calligraphy pen that tells the history of calligraphy in the Safavid era for children.
The Iranian city of Qazvin is the birthplace of Mir-Emad who was the titan of the nastaliq script, a unique and ornate Iranian style of calligraphy. The city was declared the capital of calligraphy for ECO member countries in 2010..
