Iran raps U.S. bias on nuclear issue

Iran’s mission to the United Nations has categorically dismissed accusations leveled by U.S. media against Tehran’s nuclear program, insisting on an objective and non-political approach to the issue.

In an editorial, major U.S. daily The New York Times claimed on June 12 that Iran continues to stonewall its nuclear activities, alleging that Tehran is still refusing to answer questions raised by inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about a possible work on weapons designs and is blocking their access to sites, equipment and documents.
Iran’s UN delegation has dismissed the allegations, saying that the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the absence of any evidence of diversion of declared nuclear material to illicit activities.
Even the former head of the agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, admitted in a June 6 article in The New Yorker that during his tenure he never saw “a shred of evidence” suggesting that Iran was engaged in building a bomb, it added.
It emphasized that based on an Iran-IAEA work plan, Iran’s nuclear file should have been treated as “normal” after the resolution of issues pertaining to the nuclear program.
The Iranian mission urged “American media to carefully scrutinize the facts regarding Iran’s nuclear program objectively and without political bias instead of taking at face value the disinformation on Iran.”
