Salehi meets Australian foreign minister in Astana

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi held talks with his Australian counterpart Kevin Rudd on the sidelines of the OIC meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday.
Commenting on Iran’s substantial role in helping establish peace in the region, Salehi said Iran is making efforts to improve security and living standards of people in the war-hit countries of Iraq and Afghanistan.Pointing to Iran’s scientific position among Islamic countries and its achievements in various fields such as aerospace and nuclear technology, Salehi said Iran is the only Islamic country that has successfully put its domestically-manufactured satellite into orbit despite all the sanctions and limitations imposed on the country.
Kevin Rudd also discussed his country’ position on various international issues and pointed to the high status of Iran’s civilization and called for closer cooperation between the two countries.
The Iranian foreign minister also met with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in Astana
