TEHRAN -- Storm swept the city of Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, at 130 kmph on Wednesday morning.

The average speed of the wind was 95 kmph in the past 24 hours, Ghafour Mohammadpour, director of Mahabad’s Meteorology Bureau, told IRNA news agency.

He added that unstable waves and lack of adequate moisture were the causes of the storm.

According to Mohammadpour, the wind passed over deserts in Iraq before reaching Iran and was carrying a lot of dust from there.

The minimum and maximum temperatures in Mahabad were 18 and 21 degrees on the Celsius scale respectively in the preceding 24 hours.
