Artworks appear on Tehran billboards

TEHRAN – Over 1500 Billboards and tableaus across the capital city of Tehran have been allocated for displaying a large number of Persian artworks ranging from miniature and calligraphy works to images of historical monuments and modern paintings by Kamalolmolk.
The huge project named “A Gallery as Large as a City” displays over 700 artworks, the project’s executive manager Mojtaba Musavi told the Persian service of MNA on Wednesday.Selected works by international artists are also seen in this project, which will be running from May 5 to 16, he added.
The initial idea was proposed by veteran sculptor Saeid Shahlapur, who was also a member of Tehran Municipality’s Beautification Organization, and the project was later pursued by the organization, he added.
Musavi also said that works by recent artists will also be displayed if the project continues annually.
Based on the project, the advertising companies agreed to dedicate their billboards for promoting culture across the city for a short period of time, the Managing Director of the organization Jamal Kamyab had said in a press release.
The project aims to encourage citizens to visit art and cultural centers and museums, he added.
Tehran Municipality’s Beautification Organization is the sponsor of the project.
