Sepahan crowned Iran Professional League champion, Persepolis wins derby

TEHRAN – Sepahan football team defeated Saipa 2-0 on Friday in the final day of the Iran Professional League (IPL) and won the title for the fifth time.
In the final day of IPL, there were three possible winners: Tractor Sazi, Naft, and Sepahan.First and second-placed Tractor Sazi and Naft were to play each other in Tabriz’s Yadegare Emam Stadium to decide the title winner. However, if this game ended in a draw and Sepahan won its game, then Sepahan would be champion.
Naft came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 after Tractor Sazi iconic midfielder Andranik Teymourian was sent off after receiving his second yellow card in the 63rd minute.
“Sepahan deserved to win the title. Our players believed they could win the title. I dedicate this victory to Sepahan players and the people of Isfahan,” Sepahan coach Hossein Faraki said in the post match news conference.
The former Iran defender inspired Foolad to win the IPL title last season.
Earlier in the day, Persepolis defeated Esteghlal in the 80th Tehran derby in at the Azadi Stadium.
Ali Alipour scored the only goal of the match in the 65th minute.
At the end of the 14th edition of the IPL, Tractor Sazi Brazilian striker Edinho finished the season as the top goal-scorer with 20 goals.
Also, Naft Masjed Soleyman and Paykan were relegated from the IPL.
