“Weird Situation”, “Little Witch” named best at Hamedan theater festival

TEHRAN – “Here Is a Weird Situation” by Mohammad-Mehdi Kalhor and “The Little Witch” by Hadi Hassanali won the awards for best playwright in the main sections of the national competition at the 22nd International Theater Festival for Children and Young Adults in Hamedan on Tuesday.

“Here Is a Weird Situation” received the award in the children’s section and “The Little Witch” was selected in the young adults section.

The following are the winners of the children’s section: Fariba Daliri was crowned best stage director for “The Little Witch”.

The best actress award went to Maryam Akbari for her role in “The Daughter of Tomato Shrub”, and the best actor award was presented to Hadi Hassanali for his role in “The Little Witch”.

Negin Omrani and Solmaz Imani shared the best stage designer award for “Bidili Bidan”, and Mohammadreza Fallahi was presented with the best costume designer award for “Natarsak”.

In the young adults section, Amir Mashhadiabbas won the best director award for “Ghulaqu”.

Shaqayeq Zamani won the best actress award for her performance in “Atisa and Patisa” while the best actor award was presented to Abdollah Atashani for his role in “Ghulaqu”.

The award for best stage designer went to Omid Ansari for his collaboration in “Here Is a Weird Situation”, which also brought Nahid Shirian the award for best costume designer.

The best director award in the street theater section was presented to Mohammadreza Jafarilafut for “Mole Cricket”.

Veteran theatrical figures Reza Babak, Hossein Moheb Ahari and Abbas Jahangirian were on the jury for the young adult section, while the entries in the children’s section were judged by Bahram Shah-Mohamamdlu, Moslem Qasemi and Parastu Golestani.

The organizers also honored veteran Iranian director Marzieh Borumand for her lifetime achievements during the closing ceremony of the festival.

Borumand is most famous for her hits “Grandmother’s Home” and “School of Mice”, two popular puppet series from the 1980s.

About fifty theater troupes from Italy, Germany, Finland, Russia, England and Iran gave performances and also held workshops during the five-day festival.
