TEHRAN - Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi said that many educated girls in Iran are now ready to be employed, but they apparently have to continue their education as there is no job opportunity for them.

Problems of rural women are more serious as they remain unmarried because “villages are empty of men” who have moved to cities, IRNA reported.

She added that girls living in villages are mostly educated and the illiterate ones have been spotted and their education is under study.

There are different causes for the increase in depression among girls, Molaverdi said and pointed to the unemployment as the most important one which has resulted in the rise of drug addiction among them.

“Two approaches are now seen [in the country] towards women’s cooperation in the society, one which refutes empowering women to be involved in decision-making policies and limits their role to be a mother and a housewife,” Molaverdi said, adding that the second approach, promoted by the administration, believes that the progress of a country depends on women’s active presence in that society.
