Former Croatian national coach Igor Stimac has been appointed as the new coach of Iran’s Sepahan football club on Thursday.

Stimac, who was in negotiation with Esteghlal in the summer, has penned a contract until the end of the season with the Isfahan-based club.
“Sepahan contacted me last week and we came to an agreement quickly. I had two offers to coach national teams but I wanted to work with a club and suddenly Sepahan’s offer came up and I accepted it immediately,” Stimac told reporters.
“I know Sepahan very well, the club is one of the biggest clubs in Iran and they have a lot of titles in the domestic eague. My main objective is to continue the good run of the club and win more titles to make Isfahani fans happy,” Stimac added.
Sepahan was without a coach for over a week after Hossein Faraki parted company with the team.
Sepahan is the reigning Iran Professional League champion and currently sits sixth in the table, five points off the top.
