Board of Governors decision opens new chapter in Iran-IAEA co-op: Araqchi

TEHRAN – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that a decision by the IAEA Board of Governors that closed the Iran nuclear dossier opens a new chapter in cooperation between Tehran and the UN nuclear watchdog.
His comments came as the leading nations of the IAEA on Tuesday approved a resolution that ends a decade-long probe of allegations that Iran worked on atomic arms.
The decision by the board opens the way for implementing the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was struck on July 14 between Iran and the 5+1 group - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany.
“A great and very important step has been taken in implementing the JCPOA by approving the resolution,” Araqchi said.
Araqchi said the resolution by the IAEA board is “positive” and “forward looking”.
There is no negative phrase in the resolution and its language is positive, noted Araqchi.
He also said that implementation of the JCPOA will start in 3-4 weeks and the sanctions will be lifted on the day of implementing the nuclear deal.
Elsewhere, Araqchi described the PMD dossier as something “false” in Iran’s nuclear program.
Closing the PMD dossier put an end to all the accusations and commotion against Iran by the Zionist regime of Israel, he added.
