Moscow and Tehran are interested in continuing bilateral contacts, especially when an international tension arises, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin has said.

Karasin said that both parties would continue to hold consultations as they are advantageous to both Russia and Iran.
“The comparison of positions and exchange of opinions are always useful, especially during international tension. We’ll continue this dialogue,” Karasin told RIA Novosti in an interview published on Thursday.

“A broad agenda was discussed and the focus was on the development of relations between our two countries with the states of the post-Soviet space, starting with the Caucasus region, Central Asia, and the situation in Ukraine. In a word, there were many issues and we worked well on them,” Karasin said.

The two countries held consultations on the foreign ministerial level on a number of bilateral projects, including the modernization of Iran’s railway systems, and the situation in Syria and Ukraine, according to the deputy foreign minister.

“Specific projects were discussed, including the ones in the area of transportation as well as issues tied to relations in the region and tensions that the international community is attempting to solve around Syria,” Karasin told RIA Novosti.

Moscow and Tehran have also discussed in detail Iran’s relations with the Eurasian Economic Union.

“Iran’s relations with the Eurasian Economic Union were also discussed. As a whole and in some detail,” Karasin said.

He did not give any specifics of what exactly the focus of the discussion was on during the talks.
