April 13, 2012 - 14:20
Iranian boxers Ali Mazaheri and Amin Ghasemipour have qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

In the 91kg weight class of the AIBA Asian Olympic Qualifying Event 2012 in Astana, Kazakhstan, Mazaheri defeated Syria’s Mohammad Ghossoun on Thursday

The 23-year-old Asian Games winner Mohammad Ghossoun was the heavyweight favorite in Astana but he lost 14-11 to 30-year-old former Asian Games winner Ali Mazaheri, who previously competed in the Beijing Olympic Games.

China's Asian Champion Maimaitituersun Qiong in the 69kg division beat Mongolia's bronze medalist Byamba Tuvshinbat in the Welterweight final.

This victory resulted in Iran’s Amin Ghasemipour getting the opportunity of boxing at the London 2012 Olympic Games, because Ghasemipour had lost against the Chinese victor.

Iran’s Mehdi Tolouti had already grabbed an Olympics berth in the 64kg division in the AIBA Asian Olympic Qualifying Event 2012 in Astana.

Iran’s Ehsan Ruzbahani in the 81kg weight class booked an Olympic berth last year.

Iran will compete in the Olympic Games in London with a total of four boxers.
