“King Richard” coming to Tehran theater

TEHRAN – “I Was King Richard”, a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Richard II”, will be performed at Da Theater in Tehran on Sunday.

Mohammad Aqebati will direct the play based on a script by writer Keivan Sarreshteh.

The 1597 play traces the fall from power of the last king of the house of Plantagenet, Richard II, and his replacement by the first Lancaster king, Henry IV.

Afshin Hashemi is the actor of the monologue, which will remain on stage until January 15, 2018.
