NOSHAHR, Mazandaran Province Vice President and Head of Department of the Environment Ma'soumeh Ebtekar Tuesday called on the littoral states of the Caspian Sea to cooperate in an effort to prevent discharge of pollutants in the sea.
Ms. Ebtekar who was on an inspection tour of the protected zones in western Mazandaran Province, said flow of millions of tons of oil substances and non-refined wastes of the chemical industry into the Caspian Sea is an unpardonable sin.
She said although research studies are underway for the refining of pollutants in the Caspian Sea, however, collective cooperation of the littoral states for the compilation of a legal regime is a prerequisite for the salvation of the sea.
Ebtekar also pointed to her inspection tour of the forests in the province and criticized performance of relevant projects in the protected areas.
She said if the current trend for preservation of woodlands continues, the destruction caused by the present process of exploitation will be even more harmful than the past.
