Piracy in Intl. Waters on Rise

TEHRAN In a period between January and June, 2000, 83 cases of piracy have been recorded in Southeast Asian waters, seven in the Far East, 34 in India, 15 in the U.S., and 21 in African waters, the Malaysian International Office for Marine Affairs announced yesterday.
The incidents of piracy in Indonesian waters stands at 56 in the first six months of this year, twice the number in the same period in 1999.
