TEHRAN The Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami here inaugurated the 5th National Students Olympics at Shahid Beheshti University and praised the students who had won international acclamations in their own sports field.
President Khatami reminded the contribution of physical education and sports to the creation of a healthy and happy society. He also called on students to develop a scholarly and science-based view of physical education and athletics and try to improve the national status of physical education within that framework.
He also expressed hope that the Iranian minister of science and technology, and also the minister of public health would make their best effort to improve the physical sports facilities at college campuses.
Over the past decade, Iranian student athletes have captured 27 world medals in their various fields.
