JOHANNESBURG A bicycle hijacker shot dead a 12-year-old boy who refused to give up his bike in South Africa's Soweto black township, police said on Monday. Petrus Dontsho Magoro was riding home on Sunday when a man demanded his bicycle. The boy refused to hand it over and the man pulled out a pistol and threatened him.
"The suspect then shot the boy as he was trying to ride away from him. The boy fell down and died at the scene. The suspect took the bicycle and fled," a police spokesman said. "This is really an exceptional case. We have a lot of bicycle theft in Soweto, but not like this," he told Reuters. (Reuter)
