War of Credentials and Credentials of the Parliament
October 23, 2000 - 0:0
The Parliament yesterday approved the credentials of two MPs-elect, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel and Ali-Akbar Mohtashemipour, after a lapse of several months.
However, the Majlis had formerly rejected the credentials of Hassan Moradi from Arak, Seyed Motahhar Kazemi from Khalkhal and Barat-Ali Mohammadifar from Sonqor on the same pretext under which it had so far delayed approving the credentials of Haddad-Adel and Mohtashamipour.
Now, the question is, was the rejection of the credentials of Moradi, Kazemi and Mohammadifar a right decision by the Majlis? The fact is that the Sixth Majlis has set a wrong precedent by dealing with the credentials of MPs-elect from a factional perspective.
And Moradi, Kazemi and Mohammadifar fell prey to the factional leanings of the majority faction in the Parliament and had their credentials rejected.
The approval of the credentials of Haddad-Adel and Mohtashemipour, whose condition was similar to that of the three rejected deputies, did not help to hide the factional performance of the majority faction deputies, but further confirmed the fact that Moradi, Kazemi and Mohammadifar had been disapproved only on factional grounds.
It is clear that the 2nd Khordad Front does not follow a monolithic approach with regard to the issue of credentials.
The Islamic Iran Participation Party had recommended all its allies in the Parliament not to vote in favor of Haddad-Adel, but clearly, they did not listen to it. Probably, they have considered the IIPP's recommendation an illegal drive.
