Armed Assailants Kill Two, Injure Three Members of a Family

TEHRAN Armed assailants, wearing masks, opened fire here on Thursday at members of a family, killing two and injuring three others, press reports said here Saturday. The Persian daily Doran-e Emrouz said that the incident happened north of Tehran at the plush Ozgol region. Two people carrying Kalashnikov assault rifles reportedly burst into the family's house. The victims were Mahdi Golshenas, 20, and his 48-year-old mother Faridatolsadat. Mohammad, 23, and his father, Abdollah, as well as a neighbor, were seriously injured in the attack, the daily said. The attackers, whose motives are still unclear, fled after the incident, the daily added. It cited Abdollah as saying that at the time of the horrible incident they were watching television when, all of a sudden, the assailants barged into the house. According to him they forced members of the family into a corner in the yard and opened fire when Mohammad attacked them with a stick. A neighbor, Mohammad Sohani, 27, who arrived in answer to the family's desperate calls for help, was also killed by the attackers, it said. Police are now investigating the case and trying to find clues on the whereabouts of the assailants.
