President Calls On Leader Prior to Moscow Trip

TEHRAN The Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday received President Mohammad Khatami prior to his three-day visit to Russia.

The Leader wished Khatami success on the trip. According to another report, the visiting Tajik National Assembly Speaker Mahmad Said Ubaydullayev met with President Khatami on Sunday.

In the meeting, the Iranian president said Iran's detente policy, as the principle of Iran's foreign diplomacy, led to cordial ties with all countries, including the neighboring states.

He said expansion of relations between the two countries' Parliament would impact the strengthening of the two nations' links. "Governments can work better if nations have consolidate ties," he added.

Ubaydullayev for his part called for expansion of all-out cooperation between the two countries and hailed Iran's help to settle peace in Tajikistan.
