Turkey Says Will Revitalize Border Customs in Gurbolagh
According to an IRNA report, the minister made the remarks while visiting the border and reviewing problems of Iranian truck drivers.
The minister expressed hope that with the revitalization of the border customs office, the current five-kilometer-long queue of Iranian truck drivers would come to an end and customs services would improve at the border.
However, talking to the TEHRAN TIMES, an Iranian truck driver expressed doubt and said the Turkish delay in clearing vehicles per se is not justifiable.
Ali Mesgarzadeh said: "Turkish customs officers could have been placed in prefabricated houses until the time when an office can be constructed to serve the purpose."
"We believe that Turkish officials have been inattentive toward the issue all the time that we had been standing in queues," Mesgarzadeh further said.
Elsewhere, commenting on the snail-paced of customs services at the border, the minister said that they are currently considering recruitment of more officers at the border checkpoint.
The Gurbolagh border is considered Turkey's main border with Central Asia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
