Egypt to Prosecute 80 Islamists

TEHRAN - The Egyptian government has delivered a list of 80 Islamist suspects to military inspectors so that their trials can begin.

Reports released on Saturday quoted Egyptian officials as saying that investigations have shown that the 80 suspects are affiliated to the Islamist group Al Jihad and that there is the possibility that they have links with Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda network.

The reports also said that at least one of those arrested has links with the Palestinian Hamas movement.

Egyptian judicial officials said that the police have discovered pictures and maps of buildings of key organizations in Egypt.

These sources added that some of these people have confessed that they intended to blow up some of these buildings, but failed to provide further information in this regard.

In another development, a few days ago 104 Muslim teachers were fired from Turkish educational centers just because they were graduates of Egypt's Al-Azhar University.

It seems that Turkey and Egypt are exploiting the current situation in the region -- U.S. attacks against Muslims -- to suppress Islamic groups in their countries.
