Iran, Switzerland Want Broader Cooperation in Textile Field
Seyed Hamid Kalantari in this meeting said that Yazd (central Iranian province) is a historical region lying in the heart of a vast desert and has its own special climactic conditions, IRNA reported.
He added that the climactic circumstances have urged the people in Yazd to attempt for innovation and creativity painstakingly under the toughest possible climactic conditions.
The governor pointed out to a "qanat" (aqueduct) with the length of over 60 kms, dating back to 1,000 years ago as an example of performing hard work, with which people of Yazd are well accustomed.
He also said that existence of limited water resources has caused people to turn to other economic activities including hand-woven textiles and carpets.
Kalantari called the above-mentioned two activities as the activities intermingled with the common culture of the various parts of the Yazd Province and said that at present, 430 textile manufacturing units are active in the province, some of which are using the most advanced technology of the day.
The Yazd governor general stated that one of the great obstacles in the way of the textile industry is lack of sufficient attention being paid to the rearing and development of the industry, as well as lack of proper training. He added that paying adequate attention to productivity in this industry can play a great role in making Iranian products economically competitive.
He stressed on the role played by bilateral cooperation and relationship between textile industries of the two countries in proper development of Iran textile industries and said that the more reasonable interaction exists between the two countries, the less the distance between industries would be and the more competitive capabilities would improve.
Goldimann reported on the existing cooperation between the representatives of Iran-Swiss textile companies and said that already 8 representatives from Swiss textile companies have offered the relevant technology and negotiated with Iranian representatives.
He stated training and offering of textile machinery as items open for offering by the Swiss parties and said that training the Iranian textile students may play a significant role in enhancing the quality of textile products.
The Swiss ambassador and his accompanying delegation visited several textile manufacturing units in Yazd Province.
