Portland Overcome Sacramento to Notch Up 10th Win

PORTLAND The Portland Trail Blazers extended the longest winning streak in the NBA this season to 10 when they defeated the league leading Sacramento Kings 107-95 on Monday.

Bonzi Wells had 20 points and seven rebounds and center Dale Davis had 18 and 14 to lead six Blazers in double digits.

The Blazers are the hottest team in the league, having not lost since February 15.

Predrag Stojakovic scored 26 points for Portland and Chris Webber added 24.

Portland jumped to a 10-point lead in the first period and were up 51-45 at the break.

Sacramento climbed within 96-91 with 4:07 remaining, but Portland rallied to scored 11 of the game's final 15 points.

Blazers forward Rasheed Wallace had six points in the last four minutes and finished with 15.

The Kings, who have the best record in the NBA, have a lost three of their last six games.

In Philadelphia, Celtics power forward Walter McCarty grabbed two offensive rebounds to score in the final 2 1/2 minutes for a 100-94 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers as Boston ended a four-game losing run, Reuters reported.

"The shot clock was running down and McCarty makes a great play," Sixers Coach Larry Brown said.

"Then he gets a big offensive rebound. You look at the last six or seven minutes, they got some huge rebounds."

Paul Pierce scored 28 points and Antoine Walker added 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Beantown.

The Sixers pulled within 91-89 on a three point play by Eric Snow with 2:59 left in the final quarter.

The NBA's leading scorer, Allen Iverson, was held to 28 points for Philadelphia and seven rebounds after coming off back-to-back 40-point games.

Derrick Coleman added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Sixers.

The Sixers shot 40 percent from the floor and committed 16 points leading to 17 points for the Celtics.

Boston ended an eight-game slump and defeated Philadelphia for the first time since March 12, 2000.
